It's widely accepted that the light on the West Coast of Scotland is some of the best in the world but lately the light in Argyll has really surpassed it's own high standards. Over the past two weeks the West Coast of Scotland has been experiencing incredible weather with temperatures in the mid to high 20's everyday! This has meant the sunsets have been incredible!
This shot of Mull was taken last Friday night, the view was incredible and with the dramatic light it looked like Mull had traveled back in time to it's violent volcanic past.
The sunsets over the other islands have been dramatic too, the photograph below shows the sun sinking over the mighty Corryvreachan whirlpool between the islands of Jura and Scarba.
The spot this was taken from, I think, is one of the best anywhere in Scotland and so easily accessible, it's only takes about 30 minutes to reach from the car park located beside the Crinan Canal. The views out to the Corryvreachan are incredible but views to the left are even better as you look over the River Add Estuary, Loch Crinan and then out to Mull and during the summer month the sunsets in exactly the right place to illuminate the landscape. Just look at this...
I just love this view, I love sitting up here and watching how the light shapes and changes the landscape. How is catches the contours of the hills and makes the water come alive with colour and sparkle. I find it extremely calming and it helps me appreciate how lucky I am to live in such a incredible place and also how insignificant humankind is in comparison to nature, humans could never create something this incredible.
The views from the beaches have been as equally spectacular as those from the hills and as much as I love being in the hills, I think I am probably happiest by the sea, which is strange really as one of my biggest fears is deep water and drowning. I've recently taken up paddle boarding, below is a photograph I took while paddling off Crinan Harbour.
The reflections in the water were just so beautiful and vibrant it began to take away a little of the anxiety I feel when I am out in deeper water.
Lastly I would like to show you pictures from what has been my favourite sunset to photograph from this spell of weather. It happened on Tuesday night as Crear beach and everything just came together perfectly to create a world class spectacle of nature. I'll not bore you with an explanation I'll just show you the pictures! It's this view just incredible...
Thank you for taking time to read this wee blog, I'm going to try and update this more often! Some of the photographs featured in this post will be available to purchase very soon.
